About

Oscar Williams is a registered psychologist with more than 15 years’ experience, having worked in both the public and private sectors including in community mental health, correctional services, private practice and as a senior manager and corporate trainer.

He is passionate about helping clients to overcome issues related to daily life, career direction or mental health. Oscar utilises a strength-based approach that is tailored to each client’s specific needs with the aim to identify evidence-based strategies that are easily applied and have significant results. He works collaboratively with his clients on identifying the causes of the issue, why it continues to perpetuate and best ways to overcome it.

Oscar can assist adults and adolescents (16 years old and above) with depression, anxiety disorders, post-traumatic stress disorder, obsessive compulsive disorder, trauma, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), personal/workplace stressors, relationship issues, sexual problems, and grief.

Oscar can also provide forensic treatment for violent, sexual and general offending behaviour and can write forensic psychological treatment reports for court purposes.

In his approach, Oscar utilises Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT), Clinical Hypnosis, Mindfulness, Schema Therapy, and Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) to assist people to flourish. He can also provide psychological assessments (e.g., clinical disorders, personality assessments) and other organisational services (e.g., workshops, seminars, and EAP counselling).

In terms of organisational needs, Oscar also has experience in providing executive coaching, training and professional development courses. In the past he has provided group training to private and public sector workplaces on topics such as Mental Health in the Workplace, Dealing with Difficult Behaviour, Change Management, Resilience, Team Building and Grief & Loss. He was recently featured on KPMG's Forensic Lens podcast discussing white collar crime and psychopathy (Episode 1 and Episode 2). Listen to the KPMG Forensic Lens podcast here. 

For psychologists seeking supervision, Oscar is also a Psychology Board of Australia approved supervisor.

Oscar is currently a PhD candidate at the University of Adelaide with his research focusing on palliative care and the criminal justice system. His research profile is accessible here

Qualifications:

PhD candidate, Master of Psychology (Forensic), Bachelor of Psychology (Hons, First Class), Diploma in Clinical Hypnosis, Graduate Certificate in Public Sector Management, Registered Psychologist with the Psychology Board of Australia.
